IML Awards
IML Walkers are reminded that to qualify for an award they must participate in every day of the event and complete the IML march/walk. Some events will have distances less than 20KM per day these are not IML events for persons under the age of 70 (see Constitution). For example a Four Day event all four days must be walked, a three day event all three days and a two day event 2 days to achieve the IML award.

IML Walkers are also reminded that when claiming awards the IML passport, complete with Photograph must be personally presented to the IML Awards desk in order that the details can be verified. Passports presented by persons other than the owner will be rejected. It would also be helpful before the event to inform the event organiser which award will be required. This is particularly appropriate when taking part in a new IML event.

Diekirch experience and a new Secretary General
2nd 3rd June 2012 Diekirch – 25th Anniversary of IML Walking Association A remarkable experience for all involved in celebrating 25 years of IML, 45 Years of Marche de l’Armée and end of an era for Secretary General, Dirk de Boever. Dirk has completed 3 terms of Office as Sec Gen of IML the maximum allowed under IML rules. He has carried out the duties with quiet efficiency and is a respected member of IML. At the General Meeting last October in Barcelona delegates and board members from 25 different countries unanimously agreed to award Honorary membership of IML to Dirk in recognition of his loyal and consistent service.

All correspondence relating to IML Walking Association should be addressed to:
Peter Boulden,
Secretary General,
IML Walking Association,

Hospitality at Diekirch for the celebrations was excellent as expected. On Friday evening delegates and walkers from around the world gathered in Diekirch to meet each other and prepare for the two day walks.Saturday started off quite wet in the morning but the weather improved as the day went on. Delegates and dignitaries gathered for a reception on Saturday and a large cake was produced to celebrate 25 Years of IML.

Sunday was a good day too. At the Closing Ceremony President Ron Hendriks thanked Dirk for his service and introduced Peter Boulden to the walkers. He also congratulated the organisers of Marche de l’Armée for a well organised event celebrating 45 years of walking in Luxembourg.

Amongst the various IML awards made at the ceremony was apresentation of New awards for walkers with more than 75 series (225 walks) to Bert & Ehlse.

Decision of Vancouver (USA)
No longer member of IML regretfully a decision has been made by the organisers in Vancouver USA and confirmed in writing on 3rd October for that organisation to withdraw from IML membership. It is always a sad time when a recognised International event ceases to exist and the good wishes of all IML delegates are extended to the committee involved in the Discovery Walks which were enjoyed by many visitors over the years.

Criteria to become a Global Master Walker
A participant completing 75% or 10 IML walks (whichever is the lesser) in each IML region is entitled to the Global Walker clip and certificate. These can only be presented at any IML WALKING ASSOCIATION event (note that no walk shall be used twice to qualify). Procedure: The walker has to present his IML passports "in person" and ALL passports have to be complete. (Name, address and picture of the walker in all passports) No exceptions will be tolerated. Example in the current situation: We have now 25 IML members divided between 17 in the European Region and 8 in the Pan Pacific Region. A "Global Walker" is someone who has done: 75 % of the European IML walks is 12: 10 different walks have to be done in the European Region. 75 % of the Pan Pacific IML walks: is 6 different Pan Pacific walks. If the Pan Pacific region becomes 10 members in the future than the walker has to do 8 different Pan Pacific walks, etc.. till 10 is also reached.
